COMPLICATIONS OF HYPERTENSION

Stoke:
A stroke, sometimes called a brain attack, occurs when something blocks blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts.

Vision Loss:
Damage to the retina from the high blood pressure is called hypertensive retinopathy.

Heart Failure:
Heart failure is a lifelong condition in which the heart muscle can’t pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. Basically, the heart can’t keep up with its workload.

Heart Attack:
A heart attack occurs when an artery that sends blood and oxygen to the heart is blocked. Fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits build up over time, forming plaques in the heart’s arteries. If a plaque ruptures, a blood clot can form. The clot can block arteries, causing a heart attack. During a heart attack, a lack of blood flow causes the tissue in the heart muscle to die.
A heart attack is also called a myocardial infarction.

Kidney Dysfunction / Failure:
Kidney failure means your kidneys are no longer able to work well enough to keep you alive. With kidney failure, 85-90% of your kidney function is gone. People with kidney failure have stage 5 CKD (also known as end-stage kidney disease or ESKD).

Atherosclerosis:
Causes arteries to harden and narrow, a condition known as atherosclerosis. The condition limits blood flow.
